OHMYGOSSIP — Kieron Richardson says it is the “most amazing feeling” going home to see his kids after a tough day on set.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ star has admitted his four-year-old twins, Phoebe and Chase – who he shares with his husband Carl Hyland – “don’t care” that he is in the Channel 4 show, and they often demand he turns the programme off and put ‘Peppa Pig’ on.
He said: “Whatever I have to deal with on set, by the time I walk through the door and see Phoebe and Chase’s faces smiling back at me, it’s just the most amazing feeling.
“They don’t care that I’m on the telly. If ‘Hollyoaks’ is on in the background, they just shout, ‘Get this off, put ‘Peppa Pig’ on.’ ”
Kieron – who plays cleaner Ste Hay in the programme – also admitted it has nice not to be involved in a hard-hitting storyline now and again, because they can be “draining”.
He added to Closer magazine: “I’ve done so much snot and tears it can be draining, so it’s nice to show another side of me.
“I love putting on a pinny and marigolds.”
Kieron previously played out a plot in which Ste was radicalised, but he initially told bosses he was “too scared” to take on the storyline.
He said: “When the guys sat me down originally, I hadn’t heard of radicalisation before and I didn’t know what it was.
“Then we had a meeting with the guys from Exit UK. Basically, most of our story has been based on their work.
“I came out of that meeting and said to Bryan Kirkwood, ‘I don’t want to do it. I’m too scared, I can’t do it.’ ”
