OHMYGOSSIP — Emile John could be heading to this year’s National Television Awards as a nominee – a year after he was sent to the event by his drama school to be a seat filler.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actor – who plays Ethan Anderson in the ITV soap – is “humbled and grateful” to be on the longlist for Best Newcomer, more than 12 months after he went to the ceremony as a seat filler and sat behind the show’s cast.
He said: “I’m so humbled and grateful – ‘Emmerdale’ is a gift of a job that hasn’t stopped giving since I started last year.
“My drama school actually sent me to the last NTA ceremony to be a seat filler, and I sat behind the ‘Emmerdale’ cast for most of the night.
“I remember Jurell [Carter, who plays Nate Robinson] was nominated as Best Newcomer – and he’s now one of my best friends on the show.”
Should Emile make the longlist he will be heading back to the ceremony – which usually takes place in January, but has been rescheduled for September 9th this year due to the coronavirus pandemic – with a chance of scooping a prize.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: “Now I’m nominated, so it feels as though I’ve come full circle.”
But Emile faces stiff competition from the likes of ‘EastEnders’ actress Rose-Ayling Ellis (Frankie Lewis), Casualty’s Olivia D’Lima (Fenisha Khatri), and ‘Corrie’ star Jude Riordan (Sam Blakeman).
Seat fillers attend awards shows and are asked to take a seat in the VIP section if it is empty, while a winner is collecting an accolade or answering a call of nature, to ensure the arena looks full.
