OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Dommett’s ‘Hey Tracey!’ won’t be back in 2021 – but it could still return next year.
The 35-year-old comedian’s ITV show – which saw celebrities make cold calls to businesses in an effort to answer quiz questions – has been shelved for the time being, with the broadcaster not planning to film another series this year.
A source explained: “After discussions, it has been decided that there won’t be a series this year.
“It means bosses can free up the schedule and try out new ideas.”
‘Hey Tracey!’ was first launched by ITV in 2019, but the ratings quickly started to slump, with the second series attracting an audience of just 200,000 viewers.
Despite this, the broadcaster remains open-minded about a possible revival of the format.
The insider told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “Execs are leaving their options open. But it isn’t looking promising and there is a good chance it will never return.”
Joel recently revealed that he wants his own Saturday night talk show.
The comedian has relished the experience of hosting ‘The Masked Singer’ and he’s keen to follow in the footsteps of Jonathan Ross, who serves as a judge on the show.
He explained: “‘The Masked Singer’ has given me my dream – a Saturday night TV show that I enjoy, working with people who inspire me. Then being able to tour for people who are buying tickets to your comedy shows.
“Having reached that dream, it’s difficult to set new ones. But I think it’s following in Jonathan’s footsteps and getting to talk to people and be funny.”
Joel is desperate to be “best friends” with Jonathan, but admitted to texting him “too much” in his bid to strengthen their bond.
He said: “I feel like I’m slowly wearing him down. I constantly WhatsApp him, a bit too much, but I’m trying to kill him with kindness.”
