OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Owen is reportedly in talks to join ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The retired soccer star is being eyed by BBC bosses for the upcoming series, and they’re doing all they can to convince Michael, 41, to join this year’s ‘Strictly’ cast.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Michael has been on our wish list for a while. He would be a great signing for us.
“In previous years the answer has been a flat no from Michael, but this year a conversation is taking place, so everyone is very hopeful.
“There’s no question he would be a huge hit with fans.”
The former Liverpool and Manchester United star has become a successful pundit since hanging up his boots.
But Michael has previously expressed his interest in ‘Strictly’ via social media, jokingly bemoaning the amount of “touchy feely stuff” on the show during the 2013 series.
He wrote on Twitter at the time: “Far too much touchy feely stuff from married men/women.
“Instant divorce material in my eyes!! (sic)”
Michael shot to international stardom as a teenager at the 1998 World Cup in France.
However, the second half of his career was blighted by injuries and he previously admitted he couldn’t wait to retire from the game by the end.
He shared: “The last six or seven years of my career, I just turned into the only thing I could. I was petrified of running into a channel, I just knew I was going to tear a muscle.
“The worst thing about it all, your instinct says what you’ve always done. I was bred to be a footballer.
“The worst thing is, you then get into a rut whereby you don’t even put yourself into a position where you are able to run. So you actually then go and stand in areas where you shouldn’t even be.”
