OHMYGOSSIP — Tamzin Outhwaite has praised an ‘EastEnders’ casting director for playing a “huge part” in her career.
The 50-year-old actress – who played Mel Owen in the BBC One soap for four years until 2002 and then again from 2018 to 2019 – has thanked her friend Julia Crampsie for all she’s done for her.
She wrote: “God i adore this brilliant woman #JuliaCrampsie …
“We have been friends for around 25 years … she is responsible for a huge part of my career and also for bringing wonderful theatre actors to the screen. Her integrity is faultless and she is as experienced as she is authentic. Which feels rare these days.
“Julia has impeccable taste and is the most loyal & incredibly professional casting director. I am lucky enough to call her a good friend. A catch up & hilarious lunch has left my heart feeling oh so swell. I know you are not on social media but I Love you Jules.
“Thank you @180.studios #eastenders #Shakespeare&Hathaway #WeHuntTogether #BBC #blackcabfamilies #loyaltyishuge #womanswoman #classy (sic)”
Tamzin previously admitted being in ‘EastEnders’ was like living “in a goldfish bowl”.
The actress – who has also starred in ‘New Tricks’ and ‘Inside No. 9’ – said: “There have definitely been moments in my life when I’ve felt like I was in a goldfish bowl.
“When you’re in people’s living rooms four times a week and you’re doing a storyline that’s very much at the forefront and millions of people watch it, it’s tough.”
And Tamzin confessed it was difficult to quit ‘EastEnders’ for a second time.
She explained: “When I hit 40, there were fewer scripts coming in. It did feel like I wasn’t playing the leads in things, but that’s fine by me. I’m an ensemble actor, I really like to be in a company. I’m not desperate to have all of the responsibility on my shoulders. I haven’t really got much to moan about.
“[It was harder to leave ‘EastEnders’ the second time] because you’re older and you’ve got kids and the security’s actually quite lovely, it did feel different. I thought: ‘I wonder how I’m going to be able to move back into the acting world after this time round.’ But it’s been pretty nonstop. Until Covid.”
