OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke is glad his fame has helped his mother.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star is grateful for his success as it has helped bring joy to his “fabulous and lovely” mum after her difficult marriage to his father.
He said: “What I love more than anything else about being well known is the impact it has on mum. I love the fact people know I’m my mum’s son and people know my mum. My mum is fabulous and lovely. I love that she’s sort of got a bit famous … and she comes along now and again to see the show and it’s great.”
And Anton recalls how his mother changed into “some sort of rock chick” after the divorce.
Speaking to The Mirror, he added: “She had very dark hair … and the greying hair was going through and she looked fantastic and distinguished. But when the divorce came through, she peroxided her hair blonde, and suddenly turned into some sort of rock chick I barely recognised.”
During his time on ‘Strictly’, Anton has been both a professional dancer and a judge but he admitted he found it hard to give “short and succinct” critiques on the show.
He said: “I absolutely loved every second of it. I felt comfortable, it’s not like I haven’t got any experience in talking about dancing, and it was lovely to be able to just sit there and enjoy the dancing and then comment on all the things I loved about it, which was really always going to be my steer to be honest.
“The worst part is you don’t have very long to get your point across, and anyone who has met me knows that short and succinct isn’t really my game. Why let a short answer get in the way of a rambling long monologue? For me, that’s a nightmare. ‘Shorter, shorter’ they kept telling me! I was going, ‘Honestly, I’ve barely said hello.'”
