OHMYGOSSIP — Shona McGarty is “thrilled” to have been nominated for a National Television Award.
The 29-year-old actress – who plays Whitney Dean in ‘EastEnders’ – has been nominated for the Serial Drama Performance accolade and Shona has taken to Twitter to express her delight.
The soap star – who joined ‘EastEnders’ in 2008 – wrote on the micro-blogging platform: “I’m so thrilled to say I’ve been nominated for Serial Drama Performance at @OfficialNTAs I absolutely love playing troubled Whitney Dean @bbceastenders and would really appreciate a little vote. X Thank you xxx (sic)”
Shona has been nominated for the coveted award alongside the likes of Chris Gascoyne, Jaz Deol, Kelle Bryan, Lisa Riley and Jennifer Metcalfe.
And the actress previously admitted she’s been “lucky” with her ‘EastEnders’ storylines.
She shared: “I like being busy – I’ve been really lucky to be trusted with such big stories; I don’t want it to stop. I want heartbreak and tragedy all the time if I could.
“But maybe she needs a little bit of a break – if only for the sake of her tear ducts! But I love Whitney and playing her – I don’t know, maybe she will be happy one day?”
Shona joined ‘EastEnders’ as a teenager, and is thankful that BBC bosses looked after her during her first few years on the soap.
Recalling her early days on the show, she said: “‘EastEnders’ were good. They explained that it wouldn’t be like Hollywood – it is Borehamwood at the end of the day.
“I remember going into Tesco with my mum and wondering why people were looking at me. Everyone is always really nice to me.”
