OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘EastEnders’ star Katie Jarvis has appeared in court to deny allegations she committed a race crime during a brawl in Southend.
The 29-year-old actress – who played Hayley Slater in the BBC soap – appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Monday (24.05.21), where she confirmed her personal details and denied the allegations of racially aggravated harassment, common assault and two counts of assault by beating.
The former soap star is set to stand trial for assault and racially aggravated harassment in 2022. The accusations centre on an alleged incident outside a bar in July last year.
Jarvis has previously insisted she was the victim in the confrontation and that she was acting in self-defence. However, specific details of the case were not discussed during the plea hearing and she’s now been bailed until the trial, which is scheduled for April 19 next year.
The actress appeared on ‘EastEnders’ between 2018 and 2019, and she even won the Best Soap Talent accolade at the Nothing But’s TV Awards for her performance.
Following her success in December 2018, she tweeted: “To say I’m extremely humbled by this award is an understatement.
“Thank you so much to every one who took the time to vote for me. It really does mean so much and I hope i can continue to make all my supporters proud (sic)”
Prior to that, she won a hat-trick of prizes for her performance as 15-year-old Mia in the drama movie ‘Fish Tank’, which saw her star alongside Michael Fassbender.
She scooped the Most Promising Newcomer prize at the British Independent Film Awards, Best British Performance gong at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and the London Film Critics Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year.
