OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Gatiss’ dad has died.
The ‘Sherlock’ co-creator took to Twitter to reveal the tragic news that his father Maurice passed away on Sunday morning (16.05.21) aged 89.
He wrote: “My dear old Dad passed away this morning just shy of his 90th birthday. Maurice was a wonderful man and a real character right to the end. (sic)”
Mark – who has portrayed several ‘Doctor Who’ characters and has written for the sci-fi series – also praised the NHS staff at his father’s hospital for their “kindness”.
He posted: “Huge thanks to the brilliant staff on Ward 16 of #NHS Bishop Auckland Hospital for all their kindnesses. Go well, my beloved father. (sic)”
Several stars took to social media to send their well wishes to the actor, including celebrity chef Nigella Lawson.
She tweeted: “I’m so sorry. May his memory be a blessing (sic)”
‘Shakespeare and Hathaway’ actor Mark Benton posted: “So sorry for your loss Mark. Thinking of you xx (sic)”
Author Giles Paley-Phillips wrote: “Oh Mark, I’m so very sorry to hear that, I’m thinking of you and sending lots of love (sic)”
Screenwriter Christopher Lunt tweeted: “So sorry to read this, Mark. Sending lots of love x (sic)”
‘Corrie’ and ‘EastEnders’ writer Daran Little wrote: “so sorry for you loss my friend – sending hugs xxx (sic)”
Mark is also known for being one quarter of comedy team The League of Gentlemen, alongside Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton and Jeremy Dyson, and he starred as Tycho Nestoris in HBO epic ‘Game of Thrones’.
