OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Riley is called “Nana” on the ‘Emmerdale’ set because she looks after the younger cast members.
The 44-year-old star likes to take care of some of her more junior co-stars, so much so she is willing to be their taxi driver when they fall out of the pub in the early hours.
Lisa – who will celebrate seven years of sobriety this summer – said: “I’ve told the young ones in ‘Emmerdale’ that once they are back in the pubs and they need a taxi at 2am, I’ll be there.
“They call me ‘Nana’ because I take care of everybody.”
Lisa – who plays Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap – used drink as a crutch following the passing of her mum Cath from cancer in 2012, but she has since quit booze and admitted she is a “better person without alcohol”.
She said: “It’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.
“No more ‘beer fear’, no more looking at my phone thinking, ‘Why did I text my ex from eight years ago last night?’
“I’m a better person without alcohol – it wasn’t good for me.”
Lisa doesn’t think she will ever have a drink again, after she was starting to become “really angry” around the time she was drinking more.
She added to Closer magazine: “I’m not an angry person – that’s not who I am – but I found at that particular time in my life I started getting really angry.
“Mum was so bloody young, she was my rock. I was so frustrated and the only thing that helped was a drink.
“But I realised it was taking my energy away from me, so I quit.”
