OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Langsford once mistook Sir Alex Ferguson for a taxi driver.
The ‘This Morning’ star – whose husband and co-host Eamonn Holmes is a massive Manchester United fan – had a howler when the club’s legendary former manager offered her man a lift home from the airport after they were on the same flight.
Eamonn told UTV in Northern Ireland: “He was picked up by this big S-Class Mercedes and I put my suitcase in the car with him.
“I got a quick phone call and my battery was dying so I said ‘Ruth, the Boss is coming’.
“We were only three minutes from the airport and I try to get my key in the door to say to Ruth but she’s at the door and immediately looks around me and goes, ‘Yes, how much do I owe you? How much?’
“Behind me, dressed in a grey suit with a white shirt and red tie, is the Boss carrying my case and she thinks because of the car, he’s the taxi driver.
“I go, ‘No, Ruth. It’s Alex Ferguson.’ ”
Eamonn – who recently revealed he has been suffering with chronic back pain – was in good spirits earlier this month after the news he will be a grandpa for the first time as his 32-year-old son Declan Holmes’ wife Jenny is pregnant with their first child.
The 61-year-old TV presenter previously said: “Declan is my eldest boy, he’s 32, and Jenny is his beloved wife.
“They have just announced that I, together with Valerie and Robin, Jenny’s mum and dad, and Gabrielle, Declan’s mummy, we’re all going to be grandparents.
“It’s very good. We’re very happy.”
Eamonn revealed he got emotional when he was told the happy news.
He said: “I didn’t think I would be so happy, but when they told me the news I got very emotional about it.
“I just thought, ‘Me? I’m so young and vibrant.’
“What lovely news, regeneration. The old guard goes out, the new guard comes in.
“Declan is the same age that I was when I, well, your mummy, had you. Jenny – we wish you well. The baby is due in July sometime.”
