OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ could be filmed in Jersey this year.
The ITV2 dating show usually takes place in Majorca and while bosses are keen to return to the Spanish island, coronavirus travel restrictions might make things difficult and so producers have had to come up with a contingency plan.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “The Channel Islands get plenty of sunshine so it makes sense to hold ‘Love Island’ there if we can’t get back to Spain.
“Either way we’re going to put out a belting series. Viewers have missed ‘Love Island’ for the whole of 2020 and they’re desperate to have it back. They’re going to love what we do, wherever we do it.”
Narrator Iain Stirling – who is married to the show’s host Laura Whitmore – previously admitted he would be delighted to have the programme back this year.
He said: “I would so obviously go back and do it. I’ve got so many friends that work on that show and we’d all love to get in the sun and go to Spain for a bit. It’d be great.
“We’re going to have people that have been driven corona crazy, chomping at the bit to get to a villa in Spain. It’s a holiday, it’s a chance to meet someone, it’s eight weeks in a different house.”
And the 33-year-old comedian – whose wife is pregnant with their first child – had even suggested a UK version could work after the success of ‘I’m A Celebrity’, after production on the programme moved from Australia to North Wales last year.
He added: “I genuinely thought I’m A Celeb was so brilliant last year, it’s an option. When they can’t eat their dinner because seagulls are taking it off the plate – it could mix it up.”
