OHMYGOSSIP — Nikki Sanderson was advised to ditch her dreams of becoming an actress and go into forensics when she was at school.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ star was “really interested” in pursuing a career in forensic science during her younger years because she enjoyed studying the human body, and she was told acting may not work out for her.
She said: “When I went to the careers office at school, my two options were an actress, or something in the forensics field, as I was really interested in that.
“I loved studying the human body.”
The 36-year-old actress – who plays Maxine Minniver on the Channel 4 soap – still has the leaflets given to her by her careers officer, after they advised her to pursue a career in forensics.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: “And the careers officer said to me, ‘Maybe you should stick to the forensics thing, because I can’t see the acting working out for you!’
“I still have the pamphlets she gave me.”
Nikki’s comments come after ‘Emmerdale’ actress Fiona Wade (Priya Kotecha) recently admitted she would be keen to enrol in a criminology course because she is a “bit of a geek” when it comes to forensics.
She said: “My hidden interest is criminology and forensics. I’m a bit of a geek with it.
“I watch lots of crime documentaries, such as Netflix’s ‘Unsolved Mysteries’. Human psychology really interests me.
“I’d love to do a course in criminology and spend a day with forensic writers.
“My husband [actor Simon Cotton] always buys me crime books as gifts.”
Despite her criminology interest, Fiona doesn’t have a specific Plan B in life – because she believes her “dreams will come true”.
She added: “My Plan B is non-existent. I’ve always wanted to be an actress and knew what I wanted to do from a young age.”
