OHMYGOSSIP — Dawn French thinks hugging Rob Brydon on the set of ‘Roald and Beatrix’ was a “beautiful moment”.
The 63-year-old actress stars as Beatrix Potter alongside Rob, 55, in the new comedy-drama, and Dawn has admitted to relishing the experience of hugging the comedian, having been distanced from her friends and family amid the lockdown.
Dawn – who has been married to Mark Bignell since 2013 – shared: “I had a really beautiful moment with Rob Brydon, who I know a bit but hadn’t worked with before.
“He plays my husband in it, and in the script it called for a hug between the two of us. It was very weird for me because I hadn’t hugged anybody. You know, I had hugged my daughters and that was about it.
“In the lockdown I couldn’t even hug my own husband because he’s a frontline worker and if he was going to live at home we would have to be in separate rooms and try and keep some distance. Otherwise he had to move out and I didn’t want that.”
Dawn and Rob both needed to be tested for coronavirus before shooting their scene together.
But the actress was determined to make the most of the hug – even if she felt compelled to apologise to her co-star.
Speaking to Jason Manford on Absolute Radio, Dawn explained: “I hadn’t even hugged my own husband and there it was in the script, ‘they hug’. We’d been tested and we could do it. We had permission and I went and hugged Rob and it was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m hugging another human!’ And I did not let Rob go!’ I just had to say I’m really sorry Rob about this.”
