OHMYGOSSIP — Sally Ann Matthews was “warned off” the “fame and celebrity circus” by her ‘Coronation Street’ co-star Barbara Knox.
The ‘Corrie’ star first appeared as her character Jenny Bradley in January 1986 when she was just 15 years old, and 87-year-old cobbles legend Barbara – whose character Rita Fairclough originally fostered Jenny – took the actress to one side and gave her some “choice words” about the showbiz world.
Sally said: “Barbara warned me off, not that I was interested in it particularly, the whole fame and celebrity circus.
“Which it is a bit of a circus. Barbara gave me choice words about that.
“She’s still quite scary now.”
Sally – who initially left ‘Corrie’ in 1991 before returning briefly in 1993, and then heading back to Weatherfield permanently in 2015 – turned 50 last month, and to mark the milestone she is embarking on 50 5k runs over the next 12 months, and her dog Veto is joining her.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she added: “Crazily, because I turned 50 a month ago and I started the Couch to 5k programme I decided I wanted to do something to keep going.
“So, I’m going to be doing 50 5k runs in my 50th year.
“Veto comes with me. As soon as he sees me get my trainers out he gets very excited, and then he thinks, ‘I remember this bit, I have to run.’
“It’s great exercise for me and it’s great for him, and I’m raising money for charity.
“I’ve done seven so far.”
She joked: “I don’t even know who I am anymore, Lorraine!”
