OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Mallard failed nine ‘Hollyoaks’ auditions in five years.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actor – who has played Daniel Osbourne on the ITV show from 2016 – initially tried out for the Channel 4 soap, but he was turned down on numerous occasions so much so he started to wonder whether there was any point going back to have another go.
He said: “I think I auditioned for ‘Hollyoaks’ nine times over about four or five years.
“That one was the only one where I got to the point where I was going, ‘I’m not going back again. I’m not doing it.’ ”
But Rob’s agent insisted he must have been “liked” by the show’s bosses for them to see him on all nine occasions, but they couldn’t find a place for him on the soap.
He explained: “My agent was like, ‘They obviously like you, they’re just trying to find somewhere to put you on the show.’
“But nine times … I did get to the point where I was going, ‘I’m not getting on that bus to Liverpool again. I’m not doing it.’ ”
Rob has admitted when he landed his role on ‘Corrie’ it felt as though it was his birthday, Christmas and a trip to Disneyland all rolled into one.
Speaking on David Morrisey’s ‘Who Am I This Time?’ podcast, he added: “If you can imagine it being Christmas, your birthday and you were going to Disneyland all on the same day – it would be sort of like that.”
