OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway is to front a new documentary about coronavirus.
The television presenter’s husband Derek Draper is still in hospital – in and out of intensive care – after falling ill with the virus in late March, and Kate’s new documentary for ITV, titled ‘Still Fighting’, will look at other families who have been badly affected by the pandemic, as well as exploring how the virus has affected the whole of the United Kingdom.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column of the programme: “Kate is keen to spread the message about how serious Covid-19 can be and was happy to talk about it if it meant people would take it seriously, as well as updating the thousands of fans who ask daily about Derek’s progress. “Kate and her family have had their lives turned upside down by the virus and want to show the effect it’s had on them, but also on others going through the same thing.”
It comes after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge admitted they wanted to give Kate a hug after hearing of Derek’s battle.
Prince William said: “You are doing amazingly though. If it wasn’t for social distancing we would both give you a hug.”
The royal couple met the ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter at a London hospital, where she was in attendance to introduce William and Duchess Catherine to NHS heroes, who were accepting a Pride of Britain award on behalf of all their colleagues.
The duchess told Kate: “I think you’re amazing to do this as I know you’ve had such a hard time yourself,” before asking how she and her family – children Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11 – were coping.
Kate replied: “I think we are all doing OK, but it’s very difficult because you can’t visit that often and the children haven’t got to visit Derek. And I think that’s a huge pressure for everyone – mental and physical health.”
