OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Blades thinks the coronavirus pandemic has led to Brits seeking out kinder TV shows.
The ‘Repair Shop’ star believes the ongoing health crisis has prompted a discernible change in attitude from TV viewers, suggesting people are moving away from TV talent shows and towards more “caring” programmes.
The 50-year-old presenter explained: “We need, as a nation, to come together and celebrate, and shows like ‘The Repair Shop’ do exactly that.
“When you look at the way we’ve all been supporting each other this year, TV companies will miss a trick if they’re now producing shows that belittle people for a lack of talent that they have, or don’t allow that person to go through as they don’t look right, or are sellable.”
Jay thinks 2020 will mark a sea change for British TV, observing that the pandemic has prompted a more “caring” attitude from the public.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “We’ve moved away from that. The world we’re creating now is more about caring for each other.”
The presenter thinks Brit need to rally together amid the pandemic and embrace a more communal attitude.
He said: “We’ve all had a really crazy year, so rather than get all individual about it, let’s get out there and support our communities.”
‘The Repair Shop’ sees family heirlooms being restored by experts and has been a big hit with TV viewers.
However, Jay isn’t surprised by the success of the series.
He previously said: “I kind of knew from the beginning that it was something really special.
“Some objects that come in, you might think: ‘What is that?’ But when you hear the story behind them, and you hear the emotion, you cannot help but be part of that story.”
