OHMYGOSSIP — Sue Devaney is “worried” about her ‘Coronation Street’ character Debbie Webster being mean to Kevin Webster – because she “adores” Michael Le Vell.
The 53-year-old star says the ‘Corrie’ legend, who plays her on-screen sibling, is like “a brother” to her in real life as well as on the cobbles, but she doesn’t mind being a baddie unless her characters are comical.
Quizzed on whether she is prepared to become the soap’s next big villain, she said: “It’s never that black and white is it? Nobody is 100 per cent bad all the time, unless you’re a psychopath.
“I don’t mind playing a baddie, as long as they’re funny – I learnt that in my panto days.
“I am worried about having to be mean to Kev, though, as I adore Mike Le Vell, who plays him.
“He’s like a brother in real life as well as on screen.”
Debbie and Kevin’s girlfriend Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) have clashed since she returned to Weatherfield, and Sue would love for the two characters to be able to have a huge catfight when social distancing rules are relaxed.
She added to TV Times magazine: “When the pandemic lifts, I’m hoping we can have one of them rolling-around-on-the-floor catfights, like they used to on ‘Dynasty’.
“Though it wouldn’t be Joan Collins and Linda Evans in a lily pond, it’d be Debbie and Abi in Sally’s hot tub – probably while she was throwing a posh party for the local councillors.
“I’d love that!”
This comes after Sue recently hinted her ‘Coronation Street’ comeback will only last until her character Debbie Webster completes her “business venture”.
She said: “Debbie is there till the new business venture she is working on is completed.
“It is all about a business venture and there is a reason why she needs to be in Weatherfield for it but she hasn’t told anyone why she is there!”
