OHMYGOSSIP — Vas J Morgan came out as gay on ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ before telling his family.
The 31-year-old reality TV star revealed he was gay on the ITVBe show back in 2015, but he had not told his loved ones prior to the episode airing and he was so panicked about what their reaction would be that he turned off his phone for a week to avoid the fallout,
Speaking to Ella Eyre on ‘The Truth Flirts’ YouTube series, which is created by dating app Badoo, he said: “I did it on screen, on ‘TOWIE’, and I hadn’t spoken to my family about it, prior to that episode going out. So I just came out to everyone basically at the same time, and then I just switched my phone off for a week.”
Vas broke down during an episode of ‘TOWIE’ after he got confused about his feelings and tried to kiss his female friend Jasmin Walia during a night out.
He then confided in his best friend, Lauren Pope, telling her he believed he was bisexual.
Before the episode aired, Vas – who recognises himself as a gay man – claimed that his friends already knew about his sexuality but he was living a “double life” away from his family.
He explained: “My friends all knew, but I lived such a double life at home and outside of my house, so I forgot that it was a big deal until the episode went out, and my family watched the episode and I was like, ‘Oh yeah I forgot it was a big deal’. I sort of went through it again, it was very difficult … I think they just had a lot of conversations internally, amongst themselves, and then it was OK.”
Now, Vas is hoping to help others going through the same situation and advices them to wait until the time feels right for them.
He added: “There’s no rush. It’s your own journey, just live your life as you and be happy and know that you’re loved.”
Episode three of ‘The Truth Flirts’, titled ‘No Labels’, also features trans YouTuber Jamie Raines joining Ella and Vas to talk about gender and sexuality.
