OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Doctor Who’ has unveiled its first-look images for its upcoming festive special.
The long-running BBC sci-fi series is set to return during the festive period for its annual special, and two new images from the episode have shone a light on what the special could entail, after it was previously confirmed the titular Time Lord – played by Jodie Whittaker – and her companions will face off against one of the franchise’s most deadly villains – the Daleks.
The episode, titled ‘Revolution of the Daleks’, will see The Doctor locked away in a high-security alien prison, leaving her companions – Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) – to continue their lives without her.
But when the trio discover a disturbing plan involving the Daleks is forming, they must do whatever they can to save the planet without the help of the Doctor.
One of the new images shows the Doctor locked in her cell as she counts the days she’s been trapped, whilst the other depicts Yaz, Ryan, and Graham as they discuss what to do amid the Doctor’s absence.
As of the time of writing, there is no firm release date for the festive special, but previous years have seen it air on either Christmas Day (25.01.20), or New Year’s Day (01.01.21).
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that coronavirus restrictions may cause the next full series of ‘Doctor Who’ to be delayed until 2022.
A source said: “Shooting safely is a slow process.
“If there is a series finished and ready to go next year it will be nothing short of a miracle. And it’s going to cost a fortune.”
It’s said scenes could take twice as long to film, while the last series took 11 months to shoot.
However, a BBC insider added: “Filming is going ahead as planned and we remain hopeful that the next series will air in 2021.”
