Tom Holland cast in Heart of the Sea
OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Impossible’ actor has been cast in Ron Howard’s forthcoming sea drama ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ alongside Chris Hemsworth.
Tom Holland has joined ‘In the Heart of the Sea’. The young actor will appear alongside ‘Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth in Ron Howard’s forthcoming drama, which is based on the true events of a shipwrecked whaling boat, reports Deadline.
Holland is best known for his critically acclaimed role in ‘The Impossible’, in which he starred alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, in another real life tale about the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
‘In the Heart of the Sea’ is based on the book ‘In The Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex’ by Nathaniel Philbrick, which recounts the events of a 1820 sea disaster in which a whaling boat was destroyed by a sperm whale, leaving the ship’s crew stranded in the Pacific Ocean for 90 days.
The survivors turned to cannibalism for nourishment, and ultimately only eight crew members out of 20 were rescued.
Holland will play an aspiring seafarer named Young Nickerson, while Hemsworth will play a heroic first mate who emerges as a natural leader during the ordeal and tries to rescue himself and the rest of the crew.
Director Ron Howard is best known for movies such as ‘The Da Vinci Code’, ‘Splash’ and ‘Apollo 13’.
Filming is due to begin in London in September.
