Duchess Catherine to be godmother to Royal Princess

OHMYGOSSIP — Britain’s Duchess Catherine has agreed to become godmother to Royal Princess, a new ship she will launch in Southampton, Southern England, in June.

Britain’s Duchess Catherine has agreed to become godmother to Royal Princess, a new ship. The 31-year-old royal will launch the new vessel, the latest addition to Princess Cruises’ fleet, at a special ceremony in Southampton, Southern England, on June 13, following a week of inaugural celebrations to welcome the 3,600-capacity boat into service.

Alan Buckelew, the line’s President and CEO, said: “It is a great honour for Princess Cruises that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has accepted our invitation to become the godmother to Royal Princess.

“We are delighted that the duchess will launch our new ship and can think of no better way to celebrate our company’s British heritage and our commitment to the country.”

The spectacle will feature a performance by the Royal Marines Band and the pipers of the Irish Guards and will uphold British ship-naming traditions.

Catherine – who was known as Kate Middleton prior to her and Prince William’s wedding in April 2011 – will arrive in Southampton on June 7, where she will kick-start a series of events to celebrate the ship’s launch which will conclude with the vessel’s maiden voyage on June 16.

More information and video previews of the ship are available at www.princess.com/royalprincess.
