Helen Worth confirms Coronation Street return

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Worth has confirmed ‘Coronation Street’ will resume filming “in a few weeks”.
The 69-year-old actress – who has played Gail Platt on the cobbles since 1974 – revealed plans are in place to get the cast and crew back on set after production was halted in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ on Friday (22.05.20), she said: “We are going back in a few weeks I think, it’s all been organised by ITV.
“It will be safe for us to go back.”
Helen suggested the soap could expand its broadcast schedule too, after the global health crisis meant episodes were airing just three times per week once filming stopped.
She teased: “We could even get back to six a week I think. I’m not sure.”
And the soap star also opened up on the possibility of the writers working the pandemic into the storylines – but he couldn’t say for sure “how much” focus will be put on the outbreak.
She added: “I think Ian said there’ll be some reference to Covid-19 but I’m not sure how much.
“I do know they’ve been working on it since lockdown started. The writers are brilliant at coming up with ideas if they need to.”
Last week, ITV revealed last week that ‘Corrie’ and ‘Emmerdale’ are gearing up for a potential return.
ITV said in a statement: “The health and well-being of our people and those who work with us has always been our highest priority and remains so as we look to restart production.
“We are in the final stages of working with others across the industry on a return-to-production protocol and we are in active discussions with Government on this.
“We will share more news in due course.”
