OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ has been cancelled for a whole week because of football.
There will be no visits to Weatherfield on Friday, October 11 or Monday, October 14 because ITV will be screening England’s Euro 2020 qualifying matches against Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
It means that no episodes will air between Wednesday, October 9 and Wednesday, October 16.
Fans of the soap will have to make do with just four episodes a week across the next fortnight.
It has not yet been revealed when the affected episodes will air, meaning there is a possibility future weeks could see more than six episodes.
The cancellation of episodes was met with anger on social media.
One Twitter user wrote: “It’s disgraceful, many of us couldn’t give a toss about football, even if England is playing, let them get their own channel, so we don’t have to be inconvenienced by a sad little ball game.”
‘Emmerdale’ is also affected by the scheduling changes, but the regular one-hour episode will air on the Thursday beforehand. There is also an hour long one on the Tuesday to make up for the missed episode.
They are not the only ITV programmes to be affected by sporting events, as the Rugby World Cup has been causing havoc with the channel’s daytime schedule.
England’s match against the US last week saw both ‘This Morning’ and ‘Loose Women’ cancelled. They were also cancelled on Monday because of coverage of Scotland against Samoa.
