OHMYGOSSIP — Anneka Rice is the latest star rumoured to have signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 60-year-old broadcaster – whose pert posterior became a topic of conversation in the 80s when she appeared on ‘Treasure Hunt’ in a tight jumpsuit – had been approached for last year’s series of the BBC One ballroom and Latin dance competition, but it’s believed she has finally agreed to step onto the dancefloor and show off her best moves on the contest later this year.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “‘Strictly’ believe they’ve made a top signing in Anneka.
“She’s a TV institution and a familiar face to viewers who’ll be rooting for her. Anneka is in great shape and can’t wait to strut her stuff.”
The latest name attached to the show comes hot off the heels of ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Jamie Laing reportedly being approached by BBC bosses about taking part after they changed their policy on including reality TV stars.
A source said: “It is a surprising U-turn from the BBC and ‘Strictly’.
“They said previously that low-rent reality stars like Jamie would not be allowed on the show but things now seem to have changed.
“There’s only so many famous faces out there so clearly they have decided enough is enough and have had to retreat a bit in order to get enough celebs for this year.”
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that ‘Strictly’ bosses are using superheroes as code names for contestants.
The team behind the show is trying to keep the official lineup under wraps for now, and they are using some comic book monikers as the nicknames for this year’s batch of celebrities to keep their identities a secret until the big reveal.
An insider said: “The code names are a fun way of keeping everything hush hush ahead of the reveal.
“They try to mix it up every time and this year it will be a load of Batman, Superman and of course, Superwoman.”
Last year, the likes of Katie Piper and reigning champion Stacey Dooley were named after cheeses.
This time around, the likes of former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Catherine Tyldesley and Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin are said to be featuring in the lineup.
