OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge Shirley Ballas has been offered counselling to help her cope with the merciless trolling she is subjected to.
The 62-year-old ballroom expert has been the target of relentless online abuse which has shattered her confidence and left her mental health in tatters.
Since joining the panel in 2017, the abuse has gotten so “out of control” she’s been offered counselling by the BBC to help her cope.
Ballas is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “The trolling is out of control and the show has offered me help. I can have counselling if I want.
“I have a good support system around me at the BBC. They take care of their people.”
Shirley had to consult a professional over her low moods and anxiety brought on by incessant hated after being vilified online.
She added: “They say I have rather large ears and a glass eye and bingo wings and that I’m too heavy and too old. I can’t keep up.
“I try my best not to respond but the other day they criticised my son.”
Shirley previously spoke to OK! magazine about the daily abuse she encounters and revealed it took it’s emotional toll to a point she declined starring in panto.
She said: “I’ve enjoyed the series but I’m not going to stand here and lie to you – it took its emotional toll.
“That’s why I’m not going to do panto. I’ll take some time off as soon as the show’s finished until about 4 January and collect myself and see what I want to do with myself next year. It’s been quite difficult this year.”
