OHMYGOSSIP — Tasha Ghouri’s dad put a “letter of support” in her bag before she left for ‘Love Island’.
The 23-year-old model is currently taking part in the hit ITV2 dating show in Mallorca as the show’s first-ever deaf contestant, and her dad Tarek has told how he has been “blown away” by how well she has “conducted herself”.
He said: “She does have a letter in her bag from me that she can get out at any time during the show when she needs some support, and if she needs it she will pull it out, for sure. I am blown away with how she’s conducted herself – she’s conducted herself in such a good way.
“The way she approached her hearing and explained to people about the cochlear implant was absolutely fantastic and a big moment of pride for me.”
During her introduction on the show, the dancer – who hails from Thirsk in North Yorkshire – described her disability as a “superpower” and Tarek gushed about how proud he is of Tasha for accepting herself and speaking up for others.
He told OK!: “Something clicked and she thought, ‘This is me and I have to accept this and I am not going to let this stop me.’ And where she is now proves that. [Representation] is absolutely important.
“It’s one of the reasons she is so happy to be on ‘Love Island’. She is providing representation for the community and inspiring other boys and girls to achieve whatever it is they want to achieve.
“Outside of modelling and dancing, she spends a lot of time raising awareness with her Instagram page Talks With Tasha – she is often inundated with messages from young kids saying how they are inspired by her.
“That inspires her in a way, and really drives her forward to do even more.”
‘Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.
