OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Turnbull is taking a leave of absence from Classic FM due to “health reasons”.
The 65-year-old TV and radio presenter – who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, with the disease later spreading to his spine, ribs, pelvis, hips and legs – admitted he has been on a “bumpy road” lately, so he is taking some time out from the airwaves.
He wrote on Twitter: “1) With great regret I am taking a leave of absence from my show @classicfm, for health reasons. The road has been a bit bumpy recently, and I need to take some time to focus on getting better.
2) I’m sorry to do this, as I absolutely love doing the programme, and have hugely enjoyed the past five years. I am very grateful to friends and colleagues @global for the love and support they have shown me.
And I will be back, just as soon as I can be. (sic)”
A Classic FM spokesman said: “We wish him all the very best as he takes time away from his programmes to concentrate on getting better.
“Along with our listeners, we look forward to welcoming back him on air as soon as he can be.”
In May, Bill revealed she was using an oxygen tank and cannabis oil to treat his inoperable cancer.
He said: “I’m pretty good at the moment. I had my ups and downs over the winter, but I’m now on a treatment called Lutetium 177. I am also on a hormone called Zoladex.
“The figures have become very encouraging but next month is quite important because we’re reaching a level which I’ve found hard to break through with my blood figures. If I get below this figure, then things are looking quite good. But it’s just a treatment, it’s not a cure.
“So I do lots of other things to try to help myself. I now have an oxygen tank here in the house which I use every day, a hyperbaric tank. It’s meant to be good for healing muscles and everything, but I find it very therapeutic. I feel a lot better when I come out.”
