OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Dommett had no idea who A-ha singer Morten Harket was on ‘The Masked Singer’.
The 36-year-old presenter admitted that he was baffled when Harket emerged from under his Viking costume and he recalled their awkward interview as one of the most embarrassing of his career.
He said it “was the most awkward interview I have done in my entire life and added: “If you go back and watch it, it is very clear I have no idea who it is.”
The identities of the contestants are kept a secret from the judges and the host until they are unmasked and Joel admitted it can often cause problems for him.
According to the Daily Mirror, he said: “The problem is that I don’t know everyone in the world when they are revealed.
“You can guarantee the less I know them, the more energy I put into the reveal. If you look at Mo [judge Mo Gilligan], he’s saying, ‘Joel has no idea who this guy is’.”
Joel also ran into problems when Alan Johnson, who served as Home Secretary under Gordon Brown, was unmasked.
He explained: “I don’t know politics and the first season we had an Egyptian man and it was Alan Johnson.
“I was like, in my head, ‘Who the f*** is Alan Johnson?’ Apparently, he was nearly Prime Minister.”
Speaking at a stand-up comedy show at 2Northdown in King’s Cross, London, Joel added: “If anyone has not seen The Masked Singer, just imagine taking mushrooms and that’s it. That is essentially what it is.”
