OHMYGOSSIP — Katie McGlynn has revealed her ‘Hollyoaks’ character is stuck in a “conspiracy theory black hole”.
The 27-year-old actress – set to make his first appearance in the Channel 4 soap next week – has opened up about playing new mum Becky and her state of mind.
She told OK! magazine: “She’s a really nice girl who’s had a troubled past – like most characters do on soaps.
“She’s just a normal girl who’s had a baby – so a young mum – and her whole world falls apart which causes her to get sucked into this weird world of online conspiracy theories.
“It takes over her life… She’s a lovely girl. I think she’s just been dragged into this conspiracy theory black hole which manipulates her decisions.”
Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) meets Becky while trying to avoid her hospital sessions, and once they cross paths again it’s clear the latter may have ulterior motives.
Reflecting on the conspiracy theories, Katie added: “As a result of that, she’s kind of manipulative towards Diane… Diane is vulnerable.
“She’s working through her OCD but she isn’t managing it very well, so I think Becky is probably the worst person she can be friends with right now!
“Becky wants to help Diane and be a good friend to her but she can’t help how her brain thinks. If they carry on, bad things are going to happen.”
Meanwhile, the former ‘Coronation Street’ star recently revealed she was “super humbled” to have found a home on another soap.
She said: “The whole team couldn’t have been any more welcoming so far and I’m hopeful the story will have an impact on the viewers as it covers some extremely current and important issues.
“I’m super humbled to continue doing the work I really love and hope everyone enjoys watching it all unfold on screen as much as I’ve enjoyed filming it so far.”
