OHMYGOSSIP — Catherine Tate is to star in a new Netflix series.
The 53-year-old comedian will play multiple characters in a new six-part show, ‘Hard Cell’, which is set in a women’s prison.
She said: said: “Exciting aint it? Exciiiiiiiiiiiting!!!”
The comedy, which will launch on the streaming service next year, will follow the inmates and staff of HMP Woldsley, capturing some of the brutal humour of the penal system.
Executive producer Kristian Smith said: “We cannot wait to show audiences on Netflix the inside of HMP Woldsley, our fictional prison occupied by the fantastic creations of Catherine Tate.
“This series is funny and touching all at once, revealing what life might be like in a British women’s correctional facility.”
Catherine is best known for her BBC sketch series ‘The Catherine Tate Show’.
The programme aired from 2004 to 2007, but a number of the characters have since returned in other projects.
Earlier this year, she reunited with Daniel Craig’s James Bond for a ‘Comic Relief’ skit as her infamous Nan character.
Bond found himself answering invasive questions during his security briefing with the foul-mouthed OAP, after she had landed a part-time cleaning job at 007’s Secret Intelligence Service headquarters.
Catherine said at the time: “Nan had a right old time meeting Bond. What a smashing fella.
“As ever, it was great fun filming this ‘Comic Relief’ sketch, huge thanks to Daniel and all the Bond team for being such great sports. I hope it raises lots of money.”
The duo first joined forces for charity 12 years ago when Daniel, 53, used the charm of his Bond character to gently let down Catherine’s unlucky-in-love character Elaine Figgis.
And in 2020, Catherine brought back her loud-mouthed teen alter-ego Lauren Cooper for a home-schooling skit with David Tennant in the BBC’s ‘The Big Night In’.
