OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Coronation Street’ star Les Dennis thinks his biggest career achievement is “still being here”.
The 67-year-old TV star – who presented ‘Family Fortunes’ between 1987 and 2002, before he joined the cast of the ITV soap – admits he’s experienced lots of ups and downs during the course of his career, and he’s impressed by his own longevity in the business.
He told This Morning’: “At the age of 67 … my biggest achievement is still being here.
“You know, it’s a long run – it’s a career that can have its ups and downs and has.”
Les has been cast as Sir Joseph Porter in the English National Opera’s (ENO) production of ‘HMS Pinafore’ and he’s admitted to being a little bit nervous about the challenge.
He confessed: “There’s little bit of nerves, you know? Impostor syndrome thinking, ‘Can I do this?'”
Meanwhile, Les recently admitted he’s had to “keep changing” in order to remain successful.
He said: “If I’d been doing the cabaret circuit or the club circuit or the Saturday night telly that was around in the 80s, I wouldn’t be around any more, because those shows have fallen by the wayside. So I have had to keep changing.”
The ENO production is being directed by Cal McCrystal, who is best known for working on ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ and the ‘Paddington’ movies.
Looking forward to the production, Annilese Miskimmon, the artistic director, recently said: “The season is one in which all can encounter the joy, the drama and the emotion of the most beautiful of art forms.
“The 2021/22 season offers a collection of stories from across opera’s history that are as pertinent today as ever. We have not let the past difficult year dim our ambition and I look forward to welcoming audiences both new and old back to the ENO’s home, the London Coliseum.”
