OHMYGOSSIP — Jennie McAlpine says it’s been “so gorgeous” having Maureen Lipman back on ‘Coronation Street’.
Maureen, 75, was spotted shooting scenes for the ITV soap last month following her sabbatical from the soap and her partner Guido Castro’s death in January.
The 37-year-old star is delighted the Evelyn Plummer actress is back on set, because her character is supportive of Jennie’s alter-ego Fiz Stape following her partner and Evelyn’s grandson Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) infidelity.
Jennie said: “I’m feeling like Evelyn is definitely team Fiz.
“It’s been so gorgeous to have Maureen back, I love our scenes together and the dynamic between them, how that relationship has shifted.
“She is really supportive of Fiz but she does get cross when Fiz starts talking about custody, she doesn’t think she needs to go down that route but whether Fiz will listen or not we’ll have to see.
“At the minute she can’t see past her hurt and anger.”
Maureen revealed in January that Guido – who had a form of Parkinson’s disease – had died aged 84.
She said: “He got COVID – it wasn’t COVID that killed him but it weakened him terribly.”
Maureen was with her partner when he passed away, and admitted he tested positive just days after receiving his vaccine jab.
She said: “We don’t know how he got it or when or if he had it when he got the vaccine.
“I said to Guido, ”It’s time to go. You’ve got to let go”. ‘And I think for once in his life he actually did what I told him.”
Just days earlier, the star admitted she was taking a sabbatical from ‘Coronation Street’ until she received her coronavirus vaccination.
She said: “Well it has been a time that I can’t personally complain about except on behalf of the people who have not been as fortunate.
“I continued in ‘Coronation Street’ after the first initial lockdown. I went back. I am still officially working on it except that I am taking a bit of sabbatical until I get my vaccination at the moment.”
