OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs pays tribute to Caroline Flack every time he steps on a TV set.
The 37-year-old star – whose role at the helm of ITV’s ‘Starstruck’ is his first major presenting position since he hosted ‘The X Factor’ alongside his late friend in 2015 – admitted she is always in his mind following her tragic death in February 2020.
Speaking to support group Walk and Talk 4 Men, he said: “Hosting a show without Caroline is an odd feeling … she’s always in my thoughts.
“I thought about Caroline every time I was behind the screen about to go out – I was like, ‘Yeah, Caz, let’s go smash the show!’ ”
Olly admitted his confidence took a huge knock due to the backlash he received after prematurely announcing a contestant was leaving ‘X Factor’.
To overcome this, he went to therapy before joining ‘The Voice’ as a coach.
He added: “I Spongebob S***-my-pants. In my head I went, ‘I’m going to make a f*** up on TV and make some bad decisions’.
“I made myself ill and I had to go and talk to someone. It was the best experience of my life.”
And the singer – who has been working on the ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ reboot since last month – is determined to “prove everyone wrong” when it comes to his presenting talents, as he follows in the footsteps of original host Matthew Kelly.
He explained: “I’m going to prove everyone wrong because I’ve got a brand new TV show that’s going to blow people away.”
The show will see talented members of the public take to the stage to perform as some of the world’s biggest music icons, and four teams of three will battle it out each week to win the vote of the panel and virtual audience for a place in the final to be in with the chance of winning £50,000.  
Each episode will culminate in an exciting finale which sees the winning trio compete against each other for a place in the final and the chance to walk away with the five-figure sum.
Olly previously admitted he was eager to see if any of the public are going to try to impersonate him on the show.
He said: “The performances should keep us well entertained and I can’t wait to see whether anyone wants to be transformed into me for the night!”
