OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Knowles is staying on ‘DIY SOS’.
The 58-year-old presenter was caught up in some controversy after appearing in a Shreddies cereal advert, but he has confirmed he won’t be getting axed over the commercial – following claims he may have breached BBC advertising rules by playing a builder in the ad – and will be back in next year’s series.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I have always said that ‘DIY SOS’ is more than just a presenting job for me, it’s part of me.
“It has my heart and working for the BBC for over 22 years is something I have never taken for granted.
“I will continue filming new episodes of DIY SOS over the coming months and will be back on your screens with the purple shirts next year.”
Nick plays a builder in a Shreddies advert, which put his ‘DIY SOS’ role – which he has held for 21 years – at risk.
However, it’s said that talks among top bosses ended in an agreement to keep him on board.
In a joint statement, the Beeb and the show’s host said: “Both Nick and the BBC have resolved the issue recently reported relating to Nick’s commercial agreements and BBC guidelines.”
A BBC spokeswoman said: “Nick is an important member of the BBC family and we are pleased that this matter is resolved.
“We will resume filming ‘DIY SOS’ as soon as it’s safe to do so and Nick will be back on screens in 2022.”
Nick will be missing from the ‘Children In Need’ charity special – set to be recorded this summer – but he’ll be back on the show next year.
He added: “The ‘DIY SOS’ Children In Need special will air in November with a guest presenter and I will be cheering them on from the sidelines.”
