OHMYGOSSIP — Isobel Steele spins around on the spot and shuts her eyes before playing her character drunk on ‘Emmerdale’.
The 20-year-old star’s alter-ego Liv Flaherty is in the grips of alcoholism which means the actress has to play her intoxicated at times, and to do so she closes her eyes seconds before the cameras start rolling to ensure she looks “hazy” and “tired” when the director shouts “action”.
She said: “I do the spinny thing if I’ve got to walk somewhere, but actually I just close my eyes beforehand.
“It means that when I do the scene, I’m a bit hazy and my muscles feel relaxed, so you look like you’re a bit tired and loose.
“And I don’t think too much about my lines – if I stumble over them, I’m not too bothered.”
Isobel has admitted she doesn’t do much line learning prep the day before filming anyway, because she doesn’t want to be “thrown” if her fellow actors play out a scene differently to how she has rehearsed it.
She added to TV Times magazine: “I’ve picked up what I do from Danny [Miller, who portrays Aaron Dingle].
“I look at the scripts when they come out, to get an idea of the story, and then I just skim the lines the night before and learn them on the day or in the scene.
“If you rehearse too much at home, you can get a set idea of how the scene is going to be played by the other person, and you’re thrown when it’s different to how you had it in your head.
“Sometimes, if the lines haven’t been written quite in the way I’d say them, I will paraphrase.
“I think you can tell when a line doesn’t sound natural, and it’s been written down.”
