OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Blades wants to be the first black person to host a primetime UK game show.
The ‘Repair Shop’ presenter has been thinking about his future plans and he’s keen to break down barriers as he blasted the TV world as “institutionally racist”.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “Someone asked me, ‘What shows do you want to be doing? Do you want to do ‘Strictly’? Do you want to do this, do you want to do that?’
“I said I’d like to do a game show – a black person has never been a primetime game show host.
“That’s an institutionally racist organisation doing something that keeps the institution white. Plain and simple. The more you hide it, the less you are able to deal with what it is.”
The 51-year-old star revealed there is work going on behind the scenes for a potential show.
He added: “They’re still working on it. I had someone say to me, ‘We did have a black guy once do a game show. It was called ‘Jungle Blah Blah Blah…’ I said, I’m just going to pause you there.”
Reggie Yates previously hosted ‘The Voice’ before being replaced by Marvin Humes, who went onto co-present Sunday night game show ‘The Hit List’ with his wife Rochelle Humes.
Meanwhile, Clive Myrie is set to take over at the helm of ‘Mastermind’ this year.
Jay also admitted he “totally disagrees” with the recent study by the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities, which said that although there is racism, there’s no evidence that the UK is institutionally racist.
He argued: “You only have to look at who is on the board of the organisations to see that they’re not inclusive of the people they’re representing.”
