OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Ford once scared a child who mistook her for her ‘Coronation Street’ character.
The 44-year-old actress has played the evil Tracy Barlow on the ITV soap for 16 years, and her character’s villainous ways – which saw her jailed in 2007 for the murder of her boyfriend Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward) in revenge after he cheated on her – left one young child fearing for their life when they met Kate in person.
The cobbles star’s friend Kate Thornton revealed on her ‘White Wine Question Time’ podcast: “One Christmas she was here and friends arrived. This little girl walked in, took one look at Kate and cried and hid under the table.
“She said, ‘She’s a murderer’. And Kate was like, ‘Oh my God, is that what kids think of me?’.”
However, former ‘X Factor’ presenter Thornton insisted her pal Ford is nothing like her soap character in real life, as she explained she “couldn’t be lovelier”.
Ford’s ‘Corrie’ character returned to Weatherfield in 2010 after her stint in prison and has caused even more trouble in the past decade.
In a 2019 storyline, it was revealed Tracy had cheated on her husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) with Paula Martin (Stirling Gallacher).
Tracy has been married to Steve – with whom she has daughter Amy (Elle Mulvaney) – twice, and has had numerous male flings in Weatherfield, including Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin), who she dumped after realising he was “not marriage material”, Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis), and Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward), who she murdered.
Speaking previously about her surprising fling with Paula, a source said: “Tracy has seen it all on Coronation Street – affairs, murder, kids, divorce, the lot. But the writers have decided to give her another new twist with a night of passion with a woman.
“Her and Paula will end up spending the night together after one thing leads to another.”
