OHMYGOSSIP — Ray Quinn is working as a carpet fitter.
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ star recently returned to Brookside Close in Liverpool, the famous street where he shot to fame in the now-axed soap ‘Brookside’, to lay a carpet, and he found it “humbling” to be back in the area.
He said: “It was the most humbling feeling. Fond memories came flooding back.
“I had to get a picture, it was like going back in time.”
Ray portrayed Anthony Murray in ‘Brookside’ from 2000 to 2003, and he played Jonny Baxter in ‘Hollyoaks’ from 2018 to 2019.
Since leaving ‘Oaks’, he has been a delivery driver and he has now joined the family carpet fitting business alongside his brothers Robin and Darren, following in the footsteps of his late carpet fitter father Ray, who died in November aged 76.
He added to the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Dad knew I was going to help Rob and encouraged me to do it – but laughed when I said I’d lifted my first tool.
“When I first started, I actually went to work in my dad’s old uniform. He’d always said you can work your way out of anything; to keep your head up high – and that’s what I’ve done.
“It was good to be with my family during that difficult time.
“I’ve been recognised the odd time but not that often because of social distancing and masks. Everyone has been really lovely.”
Last month, the 32-year-old star admitted working as a delivery driver for Hermes last year was a “humbling experience” amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “It was only ever temporary. I did it for about three months.
“I felt bored and needed to fill my time. It kept my mind occupied. I’m never shy of a hard day’s work.
“I have massive respect for people who do it day in, day out.
“Some days you have 20 or 30 parcels, others it’s 100 and a route you’ve never done before.
“It was a humbling experience and I’m proud of it.
“There’s a sense of achievement. I’d done a full day’s work, earned a bit of pay and then got to go home to my family.”
