OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ newcomer Haydn Holden has admitted his late parents would be overjoyed with his new role.
The actor – whose mum and dad both passed away before getting the chance to see him on the cobbles – revealed they were both huge fans of the ITV soap, and they’d be delighted with his big chance as Rhydian.
He told North Wales Live: “I know how long I’ve got on ‘Coronation Street’, but I don’t know how it’s going to pan out.
“I’m lucky that I am part of this big soap, it was one of my mum’s favourite TV shows, she never ever missed an episode and would never answer the phone or talk to anyone between 7.30pm and 8pm while she was watching it.
“I have to pinch myself – I don’t think it’s really sunk in to be honest, I haven’t really had much time to take it all in.
“All of a sudden I’m sat chatting to Anthony Cotton and filming scenes in Roy’s Rolls, it’s so surreal.”
The star – who previously played Ian Brady in ‘Myra Hindley: The Untold Story’ – would like to try more crime dramas in the future, but he’s delighted to be on ‘Corrie’.
He added: “Now that ‘Coronation Street’ is happening, I truly believe it’s all about timing, it plays a big part in what’s meant to come for you.
“Despite the pandemic, things are good right now and I’m lucky I’m moving in the right direction.
“One of my main goals would be to do some crime drama like ‘The Pembrokeshire Murders’ – I seem to fall into categories of playing someone who’s got an evil twist.”
Haydn would happily stay on the show “for as long as” possible, and he still remembers his late mum pushing for him to get a part.
He said: “I’d love to stay on the cobbles for as long as they’ll have me.
“My mum always used to say: ‘Haydn, can you not just give Coronation Street a call and ask them to give you a role?’ As if it was that easy.
“To see me now, both would be so so proud.”
