OHMYGOSSIP — A French-language version of ‘Love Island’ has been commissioned in Canada.
The hit ITV show is set for its 19th local adaptation of the format, having recently been commissioned in Spain, Nigeria and Italy.
Maarten Meijs, the president of global entertainment at ITV Studios, said: “Despite the challenging times we all are in currently, it’s been a brilliant few weeks for our global hit format ‘Love Island’ with five new sales globally in 2020 and more to come.
“The show is still a massive success; it recently wrapped up several successful series in Europe and the US. Now reaching Canada is fantastic news and we are very excited to work with Quebecor Content to bring this reality dating sensation to their audiences.”
The British version of the dating reality series – which is presented by Laura Whitmore – was first launched back in 2015 and it has quickly established itself as one of the most-watched shows in the UK.
The summer edition of the series was cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis, but Laura is excited for its return in 2021.
Speaking in September, she said: “We’ve had more applications than ever – there’s a lot of people that want to do ‘Love Island’ and there’s a lot of people that want to watch it.
“I really missed not having ‘Love Island’ in lockdown – I’ve been watching the old series’ because I really needed to not watch the news. They’re so naughty! Hopefully we will be in a better situation next year.”
