OHMYGOSSIP — ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ could be filmed in the UK for the next two years.
The ITV show – which is fronted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly – has been relocated from the Australian jungle to a castle in north Wales this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But if the virus continues, ITV bosses are said to be looking at potentially extending their deal with the owner of Gwrych Castle to film the next two series on the site.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “As with this year, producers are looking at all possible eventualities. There is a very real chance that the show will be in the UK again next year, so they are trying to get their ducks in a row and have a plan B like this time around.
“They have informally spoken to the owners of the castle and asked about its availability over the next two years – so into 2022. They are hopeful that the change of scenery will be a hit with viewers – and that could make it a shame to go rushing back to Australia unless it is absolutely necessary.”
ITV reportedly paid £1 million to use the castle at Abergele, and crew members have been working hard to ensure the 19th-century building is safe for the celebrities to stay in.
Builders are said to have been called in to deal with cracking in the stone walls and towers, while the ITV crew spent last weekend drying out the building after it flooded.
A source said at the time: “The crew are working around the clock as it is.
“But because of the dreadful weather they spent much of the weekend trying to remove standing water from areas of the building.”
Show bosses have been left with a “soggy headache” trying to work out how to stop adverse weather conditions interfering with their filming schedule when the programme returns to screens.
The source added: “They’re now trying to work out a way to make sure that, if there’s bad weather when the show airs in November, it doesn’t affect filming.
“The jungle set was fine when it rained as there was natural drainage and streams.
“But an ancient castle with no proper piping systems is a whole different story.
“It’s a very soggy headache at the moment.”
