OHMYGOSSIP — Gary Lineker has reportedly signed a new £1.2 million deal with Walkers Crisps.
The ‘Match of the Day’ host – who has been involved with the snack giant since 1994 – is said to have put pen to paper on a three-year agreement with the brand as his role looks to change.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Signing up Gary for another three years is a huge coup for Walkers as he is now synonymous with the brand.
“But while Gary is normally known for being the face of the crisp adverts, going forward they’re taking him in a new direction.
“Gary is going to take on a higher role which will see him acting more as an ambassador for the brand.”
According to the reports, this role will see the 59-year-old former footballer become “more involved” in certain initiatives.
The insider added: “Part of the deal includes Gary becoming more involved in Walkers’ drive to lessen their plastic usage and consumption as a whole.
“There are also other projects on the table which Gary will become involved in, including a project with grassroots football.
“Obviously he’ll still be fronting the new adverts but it just won’t be as many as normal.”
The former England star’s Walkers agreement comes after he signed a new five-year deal with the BBC last month, and agreed to take a pay cut of around £400,000.
Director General Tim Davie commented: “Gary Lineker has signed up to a new five-year contract saving a quarter over his last contract.
“And before you ask, Gary knows his responsibility to the BBC in terms of his use of social media.”
Gary, whose new deal will keep him at the BBC until 2025, added: “I love working with the BBC, and am very proud to continue to be a part of their outstanding football team.
“I’m looking forward to the next five years – with a European Championship and World Cup on the horizon, it’s exciting times for me and the team.”
