Shania Twain's divorce inspired new tracks

OHMYGOSSIP — Shania Twain reflects on the breakdown of her marriage in her new music.
The 51-year-old singer has revealed how splitting up from her first husband Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange in 2008, amid rumours he was having an affair with her close pal Marie-Anne Thiébaud, inspired her to get back into the studio.
Describing the story behind her song ‘Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl?’, she said: “It’s about feeling unappreciated and knowing that you are secondary. Having to live with someone that has different priorities and accepting that you’re not the most important thing in a person’s life.”
And her track ‘Swinging With My Eyes Closed’ documents the “fighter” in Shania.
She added: “The fighter in me wrote that song. I was thinking of a boxer taking a swing, or a baby first coming out with his eyes and fists closed. They can’t even see yet and they’re swinging with their eyes closed.”
And Shania – who is now happily married to Frederic Thiebaud – sees songwriting like “therapy” and admits it helped her start to come to terms with the betrayal.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “[Songwriting] is like therapy. It helped me come to terms with a lot of things emotionally. It’s sort of like when you finish crying. When you’re done, you’re done and you move on.”
Meanwhile, Shania previously insisted she doesn’t “regret” her husband cheating on her with her friend.
Asked what she would say if she ran into Marie Anne, Shania said: “I’d say, ‘I wish I’d never met you.’ I think there are just some people in life you would say, ‘I wish I hadn’t met this person or I would have been better off not ever knowing that person’.
“But I can’t say I would be better off because I think I learned a lot from all of that. I don’t regret it.”
