Andrew Lloyd Webber plans School of Rock musical

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Lloyd Webber has bought the stage rights to hit Jack Black movie ‘School of Rock’ and is planning to bring the musical comedy to the stage.

Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber is planning a ‘School of Rock’ musical. The legendary theatre producer has bought the rights to the 2003 film starring Jack Black and is “very excited” at the prospect of adapting the hit musical comedy for the stage.

In an interview with Canada’s CBC Radio, he said: “Another thing that I’ve just got the rights to that I am very excited about is that movie ‘School of Rock.’ There may be songs for me in it, but it’s obviously got songs in it as it stands. (How great) a musical about kids playing the guitar!”

The hit film starred Black as an aspiring musician who bluffs his way into a teaching job and turns his class into a group in order to compete in a battle of the bands contest.

The soundtrack featured music from many rock greats such as AC/DC, Kiss, The Who and Metallica.

Andrew has recently finished writing a musical on the life of Stephen Ward, one of the people involved in the 1963 Profumo scandal, and has produced a string of hit musicals such as ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Cats’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and most recently, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.
